Spring Cleaning: Making Room for God in Every Corner of Your Life and Home

? Introduction: A Clean House, A Cleansed Heart
Spring carries more than just the scent of blooming flowers and the joy of warmer days—it’s a season that whispers of resurrection, renewal, and refreshing. As believers, we are reminded of Christ’s triumphant victory over the grave and the fresh start He offers to each of us through His grace. But what if this season isn’t just about cleaning out closets or decluttering kitchen drawers? What if it’s also an invitation to allow the Holy Spirit to sweep the corners of our minds and hearts?
In this beautiful and practical guest post, Samantha Anderson, owner of Hands of Faith Cleaning Service, invites us to see spring cleaning through a spiritual lens. With honesty, humor, and biblical wisdom, Samantha encourages us to look beyond surface-level routines and dig into the areas of our lives that need a little more than just a quick tidy-up. Whether it’s the cobwebs of unforgiveness or the pride that hides behind good behavior, this message gently reminds us: a truly clean house begins with a cleansed heart.
Spring Is Here
When I think of spring, I immediately think of Resurrection Sunday or what many refer to as Easter Sunday. The remembrance of the day that Jesus resurrected after cleansing us and forgiving us of our sins through his sacrificial death on the cross. In Spring I am reminded of how he gave us a new life, spiritual rebirth, and the possibility of a relationship with the Father!
Spring is a great time to give your house a good deep cleaning. There’s just something about opening up the windows on a warm spring day, feeling the fresh air, hearing the birds chirping, and just letting the light breeze sweep through while getting the housework done.
With longer days and just being in a season of renewal, it’s the perfect time to pause and take inventory, not just of our homes, but of ourselves too! Just as we move the furniture and sweep out forgotten corners, it’s a good time to ask ourselves: What have I been holding onto that no longer serves me? What thought patterns or emotional dust bunnies can I hand over to God and just let go of?

The Corners of Our Minds
I promise I will let you in on my tips for spring cleaning your house, but first let’s see what scripture says about getting the corners of our minds swept and in tiptop shape. Maybe you’re reading this and saying to yourself, I’m good! The corners of my mind are just fine. I go to church; I read my bible; I say my prayers. I’m kind to others so… I AM GOOD! But what about the thoughts you don’t say out loud? The ones that creep in when no one’s watching? What about the quiet judgments, the old grudges, the pride that hides behind good behavior?
Just because the house looks clean doesn’t mean there’s no dust in the corners! As the owner of a successful cleaning business, I can’t tell you how many homes I have walked into thinking, Wow! These people don’t even need a housekeeper! Then once the couches are pulled out and end tables are moved, I realize Eh okay, maybe I can be of some help here!
Romans 12:2 (NKJV) “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you which is good, pleasing, and perfect.”
Here, Paul is telling us we should actively seek to have our minds transformed. Why? If the corners of our minds aren’t clean, we will just act like the world. We are to be set apart from the world so that we can learn God’s will for our lives! Therefore, we can’t be constantly filled with bitterness, selfishness and pride! We have to clean up our minds and hearts so that we can live righteously for the Kingdom!
Psalm 51:10-12 (NLT) King David is repenting and pleading…“Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.”
This Psalm shows us the importance of expressing remorse and seeking forgiveness for our sins. David was seeking to be restored to God’s presence and favor. If we continue reading this psalm, we find David reflecting on God’s unfailing love and compassion. He expresses a desire to walk in God’s ways and to praise him. He demonstrates a genuine desire for change!
To change, we must do as David did and as Paul said. We must “change” the way that we think. We must change our thought patterns and our view on things. Going to church, saying our prayers, being kind, reading our bibles, singing during worship…. these are all great things! If you’re doing those things, keep doing them! The problem with many of us is that we stop there.
Just like dishes don’t get clean by a quick swipe with a dry rag, our hearts and lives can’t be transformed by a casual, surface-level connection with God. There is a process, an intentionality, behind our engagement. We need living water- His Spirit- and the soap- His Word and presence to truly be made clean, renewed, and whole. Relationship with God is not passive. It’s active, living, and grows through pursuit. You can’t skip intimacy and expect transformation.
Pressing in, spending intimate time with Him, being vulnerable, listening, worshipping, crying out! That’s where real cleansing and transformation happens. Just like with washing dishes, if you leave food sitting too long, it gets harder and harder to clean. It’s the same with unaddressed issues or cobwebs in the corners of our minds. These unaddressed issues cause distance from God and sometimes we don’t even recognize that distance! The beautiful part is, no matter how “stuck on” things feel in our lives, God never gives up on us. He’s right there to restore.
Now before I start talking actual house cleaning… would you pray with me?
Father,
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
I come to you with a heart of longing. I don’t want to stay on the surface, skimming the edges of what it means to walk with you. I want to know you intimately. I want my roots to go down deep so that I won’t be shaken by the winds of life. Teach me how to sit still in your presence. To listen not just with my ears but my heart. Reveal to me who you are, beyond what I’ve read or heard. Wash away every desire that draws me away from you. Sweep the corners of my mind, God. Let your Word be like water to my soul that purifies, shapes, and renews me from the inside out.
Holy Spirit, fill me. Ignite a fire inside that burns brighter than any distraction of temptation. Help me to press in. Forgive me for the times I’ve settled for a version of faith that looks good on the outside but lacks depth. Stir up a passion in me. Let my life be evident of your presence, marked by love, grace, boldness and peace. Thank you for loving me first and never letting me go.

Getting started Spring Cleaning
? 1. Set the Mood
Before you dive in, set the scene! Open the windows, let the fresh air in, and turn on a playlist that boosts your energy. I love to listen to worship anytime I clean! Grab some water or your favorite drink and slip into comfy clothes.
Light a citrus or eucalyptus candle. Better yet, run your diffuser if you have one!
?️ 2. Declutter Like You Mean It
If it doesn’t serve you, spark joy, or have a real use, let it go. Donate, recycle, or toss.
Need a place to start? Begin in one room and put all questionable items in a box. If you don’t think about or use them in a month, it’s time to say goodbye.
? 3. Checklist
Now it’s time for a checklist. You can search on the internet, use one of the many cleaning apps, or print and use the checklist I’ve provided for you below!
You want to start in one room of your house. I recommend starting in the room you use the most. Now my checklist is huge. It is not intended to be completed in one day. I like to divide the list by rooms and by sections. So maybe Monday I start in the kitchen and I clean cabinets inside and out. Then Wednesday I clean the fridge and my oven! Work around your schedule. I usually start this checklist in April and have it completed by the end of the month.
? 4. Don’t forget the Forgotten Spots
These are places we skip during our weekly tidy-ups. Now’s the time to tackle things like:
- Behind the fridge and oven
- Inside drawers and under sinks
- Window tracks and baseboards
- Light fixtures and lampshades

Tips for Cleaning
General Cleaning Tips
-Work top to bottom: Dust Ceiling fans, light fixtures, shelves, tops of appliances, cabinets, etc.
–Dusting: dust all the areas you can before you get out any cleaners! When doing a deep clean, i always dust everything. Even the counters and appliances. This really helps to not have that sticky residue and extra dust to deal with once it’s wet with cleaner.
-Set a timer: Not only can you break your list into sections, but you can break your time into manageable chunks as well! When you’re deep cleaning, or even just general cleaning, sometimes setting a timer is really helpful. Especially for those who are really busy with kids or work and just don’t have the time to take an entire day cleaning until it’s done!
Favorite Products and tricks
Melaleuca or Method Products:
If you’re like me and have an issue with heavy fragrances or prefer more natural products, you should try one or both of these companies. If you’re not worried about that kind of thing, you can skip this part! I prefer to use Melaleuca, but I also use Method from Walmart if I don’t have time to wait for my order.
I won’t say these companies make their products 100% natural with no chemicals at all. However, they are mostly derived from natural products and, in my opinion, are still way better than your average cleaning product from the store. I also make some of my own cleaning products at home, but let’s face it. Sometimes those don’t always work for super tough jobs that have been let go for a while.
Bathroom Cleaning Hacks
Squeegee: This thing is a lifesaver. Not only does it give a streak free shine to glass, but it helps after daily showers to quickly wipe off excess water that causes hard water stains!
Lemon & Salt: NO, I’m not crazy or joking. If you struggle with faucet stains or hard water stains on or around your faucets, put a little lemon followed by salt. Let it sit and then scrub with the lemon or use a sponge.
General Cleaning Hacks/Products
- Scrub Daddy: These babies are my go to. I use them in the shower, the kitchen sink, the toilet, everywhere.
- Vinegar: This works great on hard water. Especially hard water stuck on a shower head. You sometimes have to let it sit for a while, though.
- Norwex Paste or Mela Magic: This stuff is amazing!!! Trust me, just go order them both now!! Sooo many things you can use them on.
- Orange Glo or Rustic Touch: Again, I am not crazy. This actually works. Do you ever struggle with getting your stainless steel or even your black appliances to be streak free and shine like new? USE ONE OF THESE PRODUCTS!! Clean with your normal multipurpose cleaner, then after it’s all good and clean, go back over it and shine it up with some orange Glo or Rustic touch and a dusting rag or microfiber cloth. Just remember to spray the rag, not the appliance, and a little goes a long way.
