The Same Well: Do you feel like you have dug the same well a thousand times?
In the book of Ecclesiastes, it says there is “nothing new under the sun.” (Ecclesiastes 1:9) Have you ever felt like you’ve hit a wall? That you’ve been doing the same thing over and over, and you’re just not getting anywhere? Maybe it’s time for you to take a different direction. We have all been there. We have hit that wall where everything we have tried has failed. Feeling like we have dug the same well a thousand times and gotten nowhere or came to a road sign with two arrows pointing in different directions. When this happens, what are we supposed to do?

Sometimes the Lord wants us to take a different direction. He may want us to explore new territory and find a new well to dig. This can be a difficult task, but if we trust the Lord, he will lead us to where we need to go.

Have you hit a wall in your life?
When you’ve been stuck in the same situation for a long time, it’s natural to feel like you’ve hit a wall. You may have tried everything you can think of, but nothing seems to work. When you hit this wall, it can be tempting to give up. But don’t give up yet! The Lord may be leading you to take a different direction.
All of us will experience hitting a wall at some point in our lives. Trying everything we can think of, but nothing seems to work. When we hit this wall, we have to persevere and continue to push through it. There are many walls we may face in our lives. It could be a relationship that’s not working out, a job that’s not fulfilling, or a goal we’ve been working towards but seems unattainable.
Whatever the wall is, we must remember that God is with us, He is in control, and He has a plan for us. We just need to trust Him. It is important to remember that this is just a momentary setback. You can get through this, and you will get through this.

Thorn in the flesh
In 1 Corinthians 12:8, Paul spoke of a thorn in the flesh. Three times he asked the Lord to remove it; yet the Lord replied: “My Grace is sufficient for you, for my Strength is made perfect in Weakness.”
No matter how tough the situation may be, no matter how stuck you seem. In our weakness, God’s strength is perfect. He has a plan for you, and He will bring it to pass. You will make it through it and break through the wall you are facing. Sometimes we may feel like God wants us to take a different direction than the one we are taking over and over again. When we travel around the same well time and time again, it may be time to find a new path to a new well.
What makes you think the Lord wants you to take another direction?
There are a few things that may happen that could make you think the Lord is leading you in a new direction. For example, feeling like you are being called to a new place or vocation? The feeling that you’re no longer being fulfilled in your current situation. You may feel like you’ve tried everything you can think of, and you’re just not getting anywhere. If you’re experiencing any of these things, it may be time to seek the Lord’s guidance in a new direction.
What separates those who find success from those who don’t is often simply a matter of taking a chance and trying something new. So if you are wondering if you should take a new direction in your life, ask yourself this: what makes you think the Lord wants you to take a new direction from the one you have tried without success over and over? Only you can know the answer to that question. However, if you believe the Lord is leading you in a new direction, then you should trust He has a plan for you.
There is no more to life than what we are currently experiencing!
When we end up digging the same well over and over, we often need that reminder. If you pray for guidance and listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, you will be led to where you need to go. Take a leap of faith and trust that the Lord will lead you to success. He knows what you are capable of, and He will not give you more than you can handle. So go forth with confidence, knowing that you are following His will for your life.
How can you tell if the Lord is leading you in a new direction?
There are many ways to tell if the Lord is leading you in a new direction. Such as being drawn to new activities or interests recently. The Lord may be leading you in a different direction. If you feel like you have been called to do something different with your life, it may be a sign that the Lord is leading you in a new direction.
Another way to tell if the Lord is leading you in a new direction is to listen for His still, small voice. If you feel like you are being nudged to do something different, it may be the Lord leading you to a new path.
Trusting your gut is another way to tell if the Lord is leading you in a new direction. If you have a strong feeling that you should do something, even if you don’t know why, it may be the Lord leading you. In trusting your gut, you should put it to much prayer and seek confirmation from the Lord. Most times I have found God’s will for my life in this way.
Taking a new direction in life can be scary. But if you are confident that the Lord is leading you, you can take comfort in knowing that He will provide everything you need to succeed.
Here are a few signs that the Lord may be leading you in a new direction:
- You feel a sense of peace about the new direction

- The new direction aligns with your values and beliefs
- You have a clear sense of the Lord’s will for your life
If you are feeling called to a new direction, trust the Lord will lead you every step of the way.
What are some steps you can take to follow the Lord’s leading?
Many things in life can cause us to feel hesitant or lost. But when we follow the Lord’s leading, we can be confident that He will guide us to where we need to go. So if you are at the fork in the road with the road sign with two arrows pointing in a different direction.
Here are a few steps you can take to follow the Lord’s leading to a new direction:
- Pray for guidance. Use your heavenly language. Praying in tongues helps us get our flesh out of the way and build up our spirit man to pray the will of the Father.
- When we seek the Lord’s guidance, He will answer us. We need to be patient and trust that He will reveal His will to us in His perfect timing. Be patient, wait on God, He will confirm His Word.
- Mark 16:20 says “And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the Word through the accompanying signs. Amen.” Ask Him for clarification.
- Listen for His voice.
- Romans 12:1-2 says we must be a living sacrifice and not conform to this world, so that we can discern the perfect will of God for our lives.
- We can hear the Lord’s voice through His Word, through prayer, dreams, visions, and the counsel of godly people in our lives. As we spend time in His presence, we will become more attuned to His voice.
- In Job 33:14-16, it says, “Indeed God speaks once, or twice, yet no one notices it. In a dream, a vision of the night, when sound sleep falls on men, while they slumber in their beds, then He opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction.”
- Journaling. Journaling your thoughts and what God may be speaking to you is a great way to get out of your own head and let the words flow. Sometimes we can’t hear God speak for all the noise in our never-ending thoughts. Focus on your heart. What spills out might surprise you.
- Trust He will lead us. We must have faith that He will do what His Word says He will do.
- God is not a man that He should lie! (Numbers 23:19)
- When it comes to following the Lord’s leading, it’s important to remember that He will never lead us astray. He has a plan for you, and He will equip you with everything you need to succeed.
- In Matthew 18:16, Jesus said: “…by the mouth of two or three witnesses, every word may be established.”
- Pay attention to what is being said from the pulpit at church. What are you reading, hearing and seeing around you? God may just confirm His will for your life in ways you never knew before.
What should you do if you’re not sure which way to go?

There are several things you can do if you find yourself in this situation. First, you can pray for guidance and wisdom from God. He will likely give you peace about which way to go. This is a good idea no matter what situation you find yourself in, but it is especially important when you feel like you are at a crossroads in your life, and that road sign with two arrows is pointing in different directions.
Second, you can seek the advice of trusted friends, family, or better yet, your pastor or spiritual oversight. It can be helpful to talk to others that you trust who have been through similar situations, and who can offer you guidance and support. You can also look for signs from God, such as opportunities or doors opening up in the direction you are considering going.
Lastly, you can take some time to reflect on what you want and feel called to do. Sometimes, the best way to figure out which direction to go is to take some time to sit with yourself and think about what you want out of life.
What are the desires of your heart?
God’s Word says to “delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart” Psalm 37:4 Have you prayed for something for so long you have forgotten? Could God be bringing an answer to a prayer you prayed so long ago? Do you even recognize it when it’s given to you? It may not look exactly like you thought it would look when you first asked for it.
As you seek the Lord’s guidance, remember that He is faithful and will never leave you!
Sometimes in our life, we can feel alone and isolated, especially in our greatest times of need. We might ask: “God, where are you?” But rest assured, He is always with us, He will never leave us nor forsake us. He is an ever present help in our time of need, even when we don’t feel like He is near. His strength is made perfect in our weakness. He is always working behind the scenes on our behalf, for our good and His glory.
Put your hope in the Lord, for He cares for you. He has your best interest at heart, and He will make a way around that same well. He will make a way onto the path He has destined for you. Trust in Him. Knowing the Holy Spirit is your guide and your light in the darkness, and rest in Him, my friend.
