The God of the Impossible: When Obedience to God Leads to Blessing
When God calls us to obedience, it can sometimes seem impossible. But God has promised to bless us when we obey Him faithfully, even when it might not seem possible.
The Bible tells us in Psalm 145:20 that “the Lord keeps all who love Him, but all the wicked He will destroy.”
God will work everything out for our good when we trust and obey Him in faith. Even when we don’t know what will happen next. God is not a genie in a bottle. He isn’t going to do the impossible for you. But He will cause the seemingly impossible to work out for your good. You must first place your complete trust in Him and obey Him in faith. Even when you don’t know what comes next! Making room for change is not always easy, but it always brings a blessing when we do it in obedience to God.
How many times do we avoid giving God our best yes?
We avoid giving God our best yes when we feel God can’t do anything for us, when we feel powerless and hopeless. We also give excuses like God won’t forgive me, or I can’t believe I screwed up so badly. Or how about when we think we are not good enough to do anything of benefit for God? Guilty! But He will show up in those times with blessing. We must take captive those negative self condemning thoughts and know our identity in Christ. We must have an attitude of gratitude when things are going great, as well as when things seem terrible. When we don’t hesitate to say yes, God will make way for our obedience and bless us for it! We serve a God who makes a way where there seems to be no way.
You may wonder why this is so important? It’s because we serve a God who does impossible things. A God who makes beauty from ashes and creates good out of our messes! The Bible says whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord. And that includes being obedient to Him. Giving His commands priority over ours. Doing what He asks even when we’re tired, or worn down by life. Our faithfulness shows our love for Him and results in blessings.
How many times do we try to avoid obedience to God & what He calls us to do?
Many times we try to avoid what God calls us to do because we think it’s too much. We fear rejection, or we just want to avoid the pain. If God has called you to do something (or already sent you on an assignment), do not neglect His call! It may be hard, but He promises blessings in obeying Him.
We have to give Him our best YES even in the middle of the mess!
It is no wonder God tells us in Romans 8:28 that all things work together for good when we obey Him. Obedience to God is always better than trying to live life without Him and having more and more regrets later. We can’t allow our fears to stop us from doing what is right and honoring God with our lives. Whether big or small, if God asks us to take a step forward and follow Him, then we need to answer YES! Sometimes it would be easier if He didn’t ask anything of us. But He did – so let’s answer that YES!

Are you at peace with this decision?
When we contemplate the vastness of the Universe, it can be easy to feel insignificant. We are but tiny specks in the grand scheme of things. And yet, each one of us has the power to make choices that could change the course of our lives and even the world.
One of the most important choices we make is whether to give God our yes. It will determine our eternal destiny, so this is not a decision to take lightly. But if we are at peace with the decision to give God our yes, then we can be confident that we are making the right choice for our lives. When God calls us to something, we can never go wrong in being obedient.
Commitment to our decisions is not always easy.
It can be difficult to remain committed to our decisions. Especially when they require us to give up something we desire. Or when it’s hard and requires more time and sacrifice than we first envisioned. However, if we want to experience true peace, we must be willing to give God our yes and trust that He knows what is best for us. We must be willing to stay focused and intentional to complete the task He has placed before us. Being honorable in staying committed to our yes to God is a vital part of obedience. We never want to give Him our yes, and when it gets tough, give up and walk away. Then we have lied to God and are in sin.
Scripture tells us in Philippians 4:7, “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus”. This peace is not based on our circumstances or feelings, but on our trust in God. When we surrender our lives to Him, we can rest assured that He will lead us in the right path. Even if it is not the path we would have chosen for ourselves.
So if you are struggling to make a decision. Or if you are questioning a decision you have already made. Focus yourself on time in the secret place of prayer with God. Ask Him for confirmation, and wait for that confirmation and the peace it brings.
Are you taking steps toward obedience to God?
“Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would not be of any advantage to you.” – Hebrews 13:17
Giving a resounding “Yes!” to God is just the beginning of obedience. Obeying what He has called you to do with joy is the key to living a life pleasing to Him. Are you taking steps toward being obedient to the Yes, you have given God in what He has called you to do? If not, why not? The obedience that God calls us to is not always easy, but it is always worth it. As we are obedient to the Yes, we have given Him, we can experience the joy of walking in His perfect will for our lives.
When God asks us for a Yes, it is our joy and privilege to be obedient to that Yes. It is an act of worship, and disobedience is an act of rebellion. As we take steps of obedience, we are also taking steps of faith. We are saying to God, “I trust you. I believe you are good and have a good plan for my life.”

You may not see an immediate answer, but I promise you, it’s coming!
Sometimes we wonder what our Yes of obedience to God should look like. Don’t lose hope if you don’t see an immediate answer. His plan for you is always good, and He will make it clear in due time. Be patient, and trust He knows what He’s doing. An answer is coming, I can promise you that.
When I first said “yes” to God, I remember it so well. I had no idea what it would look like or what I was supposed to do. But I knew it would be worth it. And I was right.
It may not have been easy, but following God’s plan for my life has been the most rewarding thing I have ever done. I’ve made mistakes along the way, but His grace has been sufficient.
Our obedience to God will be used for His glory and our good.
Don’t worry if you feel lost or uncertain about your next steps. God has a plan for you too. And it will all make sense in time. Trust Him and take the first step, even if you don’t know where it will lead. I promise you, it’s worth it. As the song above says so beautifully:
“Narrow as the road may seem, I’ll follow as your spirit leads. Broken as my life may be, I will give you every piece. I hear, you call, I am available. I say, Yes Lord, I am available.”
