Bible Review: NKJV The Bible Study Bible by Thomas Nelson

Looking for a new Bible to for a small group? This just might be the end of your searching.

The new Thomas Nelson NKJV The Bible Study Bible is like no other Bible I have ever seen. It includes a study guide for every chapter of the Bible. The publishers have used the 9.5 comfort print font, therefore it is very easy to read without added strain to the eyes. I have enjoyed getting to know this new Bible and the study content it contains. However, it is not an actual study Bible, as the name might imply, but more so of a conversation starter for small groups.

Subject-Focused Study Plans

Positioned at the beginning of the Bible, you’ll find structured schedules outlining 4 to 13-week Bible studies encompassing a wide array of subjects, including marriage, finances, evangelism, salvation, and beyond. These plans interconnect diverse studies, simplifying the process for leaders to locate insight and comprehension concerning various themes and principles in the Bible.

3 Categories of study

Discover more than 1,200 Scripture studies within this Bible. They divided each study into three distinct sections, enabling you and your group to thoroughly explore every chapter of the Bible. These sections are contained in a beautiful blue block at the end of each chapter.

  1. Start: For each chapter, an icebreaker question initiates discussions, setting the tone. Additionally, many studies incorporate an activity, catering to visual learners and offering a new viewpoint.
  1. Grow: Four to eight handcrafted questions are the meat of each Bible study to help you and your group engage meaningfully with the text.
  1. Go: At the conclusion of every chapter study, you’ll encounter an application segment designed to aid your assimilation of the material, enabling you to implement the lessons into your everyday life.

Each chapter study is not a commentary teaching the meaning of the chapter. But simply a means to ignite conversation by asking questions and often contain reference verses to further reinforce applying scripture to our everyday life.

My Honest thoughts on the NKJV The Bible Study Bible

While I have enjoyed this Bible and the easy-to-read font, it is not one that would be my first choice for study. This would be a great introductory Bible for small groups or for someone who is new to the Bible and applying it to one’s life. But for the seasoned Christian well versed in scripture and a little further in their walk with the Lord, I feel it would lack the depth necessary for further growth.

I received the hardback version for my review and while I love the silky softness of the paper and the comfort print font; it is a larger Bible. It has 1961 pages (not including the introductory pages and maps) and measures roughly 6.57 x 1.93 x 9.61 inches.

Final Thoughts

Clearly, this is a great Bible, yet will not be a top choice for everyone. Still, all the same, I feel it has value and worth the current listed sale price of $34.99 right now on Bible Gateways Store. And right now on Amazon, they list it for $39.12, both for the hardcover edition. For anyone looking for an introductory Bible with suggested questions and points for a study group, you can’t go wrong. For others looking for an in-depth study Bible, in which the name implies with deeper content, this is not the one for you.
